You may have unlimited resources and the most exquisite heirloom baubles on hand to decorate your Christmas tree. Or maybe you are relegated to using lights, popcorn garlands and home-made decorations. It really makes no difference.
Here are a few pointers to help you decorate your tree and create that holiday atmosphere that makes for many charming memories.
Do it Together
Whether you are setting up a tree in your apartment, home or office, it is family and community engagement that inevitably brings the best results.
Not only does this increase the efficacy of your task, it allows for bonding and connection with your loved ones and friends that will last all year. Best of all, there will be plenty of happy interactions as you pull together to create this symbol of life.
There is no right or wrong way to decorate a Christmas tree, but there are some practical processes and tips to maximize your results.
The Lights
The lights of your Christmas tree should be placed first so you can achieve a dynamic look that will enhance the beauty of your other Christmas tree decorations. You can choose a string of multi-colored lights, or a completely white strand.
White lights are classic and traditional while multicolored lights are definitely more captivating and festive. Place your lights within the tree itself to achieve that illuminated effect.
Begin at the bottom of the tree and work your way upward, placing the lights close to the trunk.
Garland, Streamers and Tinsel
There are no rules about how these decorations should be applied but for simplicity’s sake, you can begin at the top and work your way down. As you advance to lower levels of the tree, you will need more garland to cover the wider spaces around the branches.
The big idea here is to achieve a balanced look and even flow of garland from the top to bottom. For best results, allow your garland to dangle comfortably. Tightly laid garland will look squeezed and rushed which is probably not the look you are going for.
Baubles and Ornaments
Be sure to take a moment to step back and eyeball your work as you move down. Before you begin adding your baubles, identify the parts of the tree that will emphasize the ornaments hung there.
This is the spot to place your favorite or most beautiful ornaments. Space them out evenly considering the sizes and colors as they relate to other baubles in the vicinity.
The final touch here is adding personalized ornaments that you and yours have collected and created. These are often photo ornaments, special gifted ornaments and homemade ornaments.
Top Your Tree Off
The job is not done until you have topped your tree with a suitable ornament. Traditionally, this is an angel or a star but there are many other things you can add.
For example, a dove of peace or any other decoration you would like to celebrate with your handiwork. Tree skirts at the bottom of the tree complete the look by hiding the unsightly support system.
Finally, take a moment to sit together in the comfortable beauty of your decorated tree for some hot chocolate, eggnog and Christmas cookies. There is no better way to appreciate the beauty of a well-decorated Christmas tree.
